KOBS continued their perfect trial record with four wins against Epping at Somerville Park on Saturday. Far away from the comforts of the Kingdome some pundits expected us to struggle, however they were put in their place with another clean sweep.
The day started with two hard-fought games in 4s and 3s, both being decided by less than a converted try. Both were hard, physical encounters with the big Epping forwards proving hard to manage. However both teams adapted brilliantly to the warm conditions and were able to come away with two sterling wins.
KOBS showed their class in the top two grades though. After a lean season in 2011 2nd grade has been reborn with some fresh faces and these changes paid dividends on Saturday. They started slowly but established their dominance in the forwards and ended up winning comfortably four tries to one.
But the best was yet to come with 1st grade showing some very promising signs for the 2012 Barraclough Cup campaign with a convincing win. Like the preceding games the opening stanza was tight, but our boys stuck to the task and gradually got on top. The tries were evenly distributed and the 40+ scoreline clearly had coach Deane excited for what lies ahead in 2012.
Deane said after the match “This is probably the high point of my life so far. But if we beat Petersham in two weeks time… well, I don’t know what I will do. But shit is going to get real.” Ominous words.
Later that evening, Deane added “I want to send a warning to every other side in Subbies: KOBS are coming for you, and we can’t be stopped. And to prove that, watch me do a push-up where I clap BEHIND my back”. The results can be seen on facebook.
But all in all it was yet another successful outing for KOBS in 2012. The first competition game of the season takes place against Petersham on Saturday April 14 at Camperdown Oval, with the season launch to follow at the Nags. Get excited boys, season 2012 is here!
